What’s Happening?
New Turf
The turf was completed and was blessed on Tuesday morning. The blessing of the turf was performed by the 1981 WHS Dux and first XV rugby captain Danny Karetea-Goddard on behalf of mana whenua.
Ngā Manaakitanga
On Thursday, the final session of Ngā Manaakitanga saw ākonga and tutors come together to celebrate all their hard mahi. Ngā Manaakitanga is our academic mentoring programme for ākonga Maori and runs every Thursday, led by tutors from VUW and organised by Whaea Char and Suz.
He Kākano
One of our senior students has made a stylophone in electronics class. He was supported to create a circuit board that acts as a stylus-operated keyboard, connected to a speaker that produces different sounds. A junior made a Kawa Kawa wreath in Māori class and we had a group session in Communication class using a ball to practice maintaining eye contact.
Sport
Equestrian
One of our students, Dominique Gilling, has been selected to represent Aotearoa New Zealand in Equestrian in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin, Germany. It will be held from June 17-25, 2023. You can read more about the squad selection here.
World Skate Games 2022

Louis passed through the UK on his way to Argentina and took out first place in a competition there over weekend. He is currently in Buenos Aires, and the next stage of the competition takes place through the week with heats on Friday, and finals over the weekend.
