Achievements

Smokefree Rocquest – Regional Finals

Eleven music groups took part in Smokefree Rockquest Heats on Saturday –  well done to everyone who performed!  Five of these groups have been selected to compete in the Regional Finals: Marmalade, Ecstasy, The Michaels, The Jay-Js and The Side Characters. These groups will perform two original songs. Come along to Sacred Heart College (Lower Hutt) on Saturday 8 June! Tickets can be purchased on the door.

‘Hector’ by WHS Alumna Cadence Chung

Cadence is putting on another original play that she has written at BATS Theatre Wellington from 18-22 June.  The play is called ‘Hector’, it’s about composer Hector Berlioz ending up stuck in a room with a modern Chinese New Zealander Hector Wong. It examines historical canons around art and Western Art Music in a snappy and theatrical way.  Alongside stage manager Jackson McCarthy, two further WHS alumnus, Hazel Perigo-Blackburn and Lewis Thomson are co-directing the play.

Tough Guy and Gal Mud Run Challenge

Friday 24 May showcased an exciting event, with more than 60 spirited students from WHS bravely tackling the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge as part of their Sports Science and PE curriculum. With mud-caked clothes and adrenaline pumping, they navigated through obstacles, demonstrating resilience and teamwork every step of the way. The coolest part was how they all worked together, cheering each other on and helping out when someone got stuck. When they finally finished, covered head to toe in mud, they were all smiles. We’re thrilled to announce that one of our own, Ivan Purdy, clinched an impressive 3rd place spot in the fiercely competitive U16-U19 male category. Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding performance and unwavering spirit!
