Transport yourself to a most unusual tramping hut with our Year 11 Drama students.  Rock it out with our talented and eclectic bands as they battle it out at Meow and warm up your vocal chords for an extraordinary evening of musical talent.  Read all about our sports accolades and more in this week’s Wrap Up.

Battle of the Bands – Sunday 22 September at 4pm

Acoustic Music Evening Tuesday 24 September at 7.30pm

Get ready for an evening of musical talent showcasing everything from solo piano and song, Maori Performing Arts, through to a final performance of a combined student and staff choir accompanied by full orchestra. Year 11 Drama brings you a night in a tramping hut that you will never forget!

Featuring all your favourite characters: The One That Ate Your Food, The Unbelievable Snoring One, The One With BO And Bare Feet, The One With Dirty Dishes, The One That Brought A Guitar, and of course there’s The One With Not Enough Gear. Meet them all this week in the Year 11 Drama production of Cabin Fever by Bernard Beckett. 

Shows take place on:  Tuesday 17 September at 4.30pm and 6pm and Wednesday 18 September at 4.30pm.

Achievements

Students selected for New Zealand’s Floorball team

Congratulations to current year 12 student Eva Baker and ex students Marie and Kristina Sundin for making the New Zealand Women’s Floorball team. This team has been selected for the upcoming 2025 Women’s World Floorball Championship Qualifiers which will be held in early 2025.


3rd Place for Fynn at NZ Secondary Schools Climbing Nationals

Congrats to Fynn Marno-Simpson for placing 3rd in Mt Maunganui at the NZSS Climbing Nationals.  Fynn’s incredible determination, skill, and perseverance have paid off in an outstanding result on the national stage. We’re all so proud of this fantastic achievement—what an inspiration for the entire WHS community!

Registrations – Term 4

Term 4 sport registrations are open! If you played a summer sport in term 1, you are automatically registered to play that sport again in term 4.  If you wish to join a sport in term 4, please register online via WHS Sport on the school website.


Senior Netball Team at the Lower North Island Tournament

We are so proud of our Senior A netball team who qualified to the semi-final of the of the tournament, where they put on an incredible performance narrowly losing 25-26 to Te Paepae o Aotea!  Read more about this and other sporting news on our Wellington High School Sports Facebook page.

Wellington Trades Academy 2025

This is an exciting opportunity for year 12 and 13 students to get a head start in developing trades skills that are valued and needed by employers.  With the opportunity to mix in school and out of school learning, the programme allows you to gain credits and skills towards BOTH NCEA and Trades standards and credits.  The skills you will learn will assist in preparing you for next steps – return to school, a Pre Apprenticeship polytech course, an apprenticeship or entry level employment. 

Programme options:

Level 2-3 – Cafe/Cookery, Construction Mixed Trades, Animation, Engineering/Automotive, Te Ao Haka, Salon

Level 3 – Barbering, Cookery, Health Pathways

Next week, a presentation with more detailed information will be shown to Year 11 and 12 students. Links to an enrolment form and course descriptions will be provided.  If you are interested, please attend the meeting on Wed 25 Sept at 1.20pm in M410.
