The Annual WHS Senior Art Exhibition was held on Tuesday in the Riley Centre. The exhibition is a celebration of the hard mahi and the dedication of our senior art students to complete their art portfolios over the course of the year. This year’s showcase includes a remarkable variety of portfolios from Design, Toi Māori, Photography, Sculpture, Printmaking, and Painting. Visitors were invited to vote for their favorite portfolio for the People’s Choice Award, we received over 500 votes in total. Their contributions keep our library in tip top condition, and we deeply appreciate their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the year. Achievements
Junior Young Physicists’ Tournament
At the start of the term 3 holidays, we took a group to Brisbane to compete in the Junior Young Physicists Tournament (JYPT). Teams of students aged under 16, came from across New Zealand and Australia to compete. This event pitches teams against each other to debate their understanding of the physics phenomena that they have spent the past term experimenting on. WHS has a 15 year history of using tournament style events to extend our inquisitive students. For most in the team this is the biggest project they have ever completed, and they all can’t wait to enter another tournament. One parent, who attended the tournament final, commented “What an amazing opportunity for the students to grow, both personally and academically. It was fantastic to see their dynamic as a team on the day.” We came a close second place, and everyone had a great time. The students all gained a lot from the trip, and some are already involved as team assistants for our own Wellington Junior Science Tournament later this year.

It is a busy time of year for Year 13 students with exams coming up over the next few weeks. For students and parents who need career related and pathway advice, please schedule an appointment with our careers advisor, Chuni Bhikha at bac@whs.school.nz
