  • Monday 11 November:  Board meeting 6.00pm
  • Friday 15 November: Learning Conversations for Years 9 – 11
  • Wednesday 20 November: PPTA meeting – school will finish at 12.20pm (see below)
  • Friday 29 November: Year 11 Final Assembly; NCEA exams end
  • Monday 2 December: Year 13 celebration evening
  • Monday 9 December:  Board meeting 6.00pm
  • Friday 13 December: Year 9 and 10 Final Assemblies
  • Friday 13 December: Term 4 ends

Learning Conversations Friday 15 November

Learning Conversation bookings for Years 9-11 are now open.  Please visit https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code/np8ge to book an appointment. Other than attending their Learning Conversation, your student will not attend school on Friday 15 November.

Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA) meeting announcement PPTA logo colour 50px

The Post Primary Teachers’ Association has directed members to attend a round of branch-based union meetings held under the provisions of Section 26 of the Employment Relations Act 2000.

The meeting for Wellington City PPTA members will be held at 1pm on Wednesday 20 November in the Wellington High School library. To enable Wellington High School teaching staff to attend the meeting, school will finish at 12.20pm. This means that periods 1 to 3 will run as normal. Please note that the times for school buses cannot be changed.

Supervision is available for students during the afternoon if required. Please email admin@whs.school.nz if your student requires supervision.

For students in He Kākano supervision is available and SESTA taxis will run at 3.20pm as usual.

Pertussis (whooping cough) update

Te Whatu Ora | Heath New Zealand has reported an increasing number of confirmed pertussis (whooping cough) cases. It is highly contagious and particularly serious for pēpi, tamariki and older adults – it can be fatal in some cases. Vaccination provides the best protection against pertussis and is free for children under 18.

Staff are encouraged to stay up to date with immunisations – in particular pertussis and measles. Health New Zealand are recommending the free Boostrix vaccination for pregnant people.

Yearbook 2024

The 2024 magazine/yearbook is under production at the moment. If you have not already paid for your copy ($20) and would like a copy, please pay at Student Services or make an online payment via the Parent Portal before 11 November 2024.

If you are unsure whether you have already paid, please contact Student Services (ss@whs.school.nz) prior to submitting a payment.

This year, the yearbook will be finalised in December following the Senior celebration evening and Junior celebrations. It will be distributed by mail in late January. If you are ordering a yearbook and your address changes after 11 November, please email Student Services so we can update your school records, and can make sure you receive your copy.

Congratulations to our Year 10 Battle of the Bibliophiles Team for competing in the inter school literary competition and achieving an impressive 5th place out of 56 teams! Their success was a testament to their great reading skills and teamwork. What a fantastic effort April Samuel, Caitlin Garratt, Elsie Dun, Esther Carey-Smith, Lizzy Nicholson and Rosie Buyck!

Emily’s Winning Honeycomb Bar

 

As the Supreme Winner of the Chocolate Dreams competition, Emily stepped into the  Wellington Chocolate Factory to create her winning bar.

Get in early to order her limited release Honeycomb bar which was inspired by a love of flowers, lemon and honey drinks and featured flavours of lemon, manuka honey and caramelised lemon zest.

Trailblazing ex-student Cadence Chung features in a new docoseries focusing on the legacy and influence of Katherine Mansfield. Episode 7 features Cadence – published poet, composer, and former winner of the Katherine Mansfield short story prize) alongside Poet Laureate Chris Tse. Part of the episode was filmed in the WHS library, and also features ex-student (and another winner of the KM prize!) Joshua Toumu’a.
