Te Whanau a Taraika Kapa Haka

Wellington High’s Kapa Haka crew Te Whanau a Taraika represented our school at the Wellington Regional Whakataetae competition and placed fifth amongst a strong field of schools. This achievement is outstanding for our fledgling group as many of the other schools compete year after year and have a wealth of student experience to draw on. We are so proud of the hard work and commitment that our students demonstrated in preparing for this event, and their performance on the last day of term was breathtaking, as you’ll see in the video. Te Whanau a Taraika was led by Iana Takarangi, Zevanya Ranginui and Awanui Noanoa Morgan who demonstrated outstanding rangatiratanga in different ways. Wellington High School acknowledges in particular the leadership of Matua Neitana Lobb who nurtured and challenged this group of students (many of whom were inexperienced with Kapa Haka) to perform with great heart and polish in the competition. He was well supported by Matua Ben Tangaere, Whaea Charlene Aramoana, Whaea Suzanne Meijer, Whaea Anna MacRae, Matua Michael Harcourt, Whaea Caitlin Reilly and many others.
Ka nui te mihi, Te Whanau a Taraika.
