Rostering home

On the days notified below, students in the named year level, will not be taught or supervised by PPTA members. Teaching and supervision of other year levels not subject to the strike action will continue as normal.

Week Dates Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday

9 19-23 June Year 9 & 10 Year 11 & 12 Year 9 & 13 Year 10 & 11
10 26-30 June Year 12 & 13 Year 9 & 10 Year 11 & 12 Year 9 & 13

Year 10 numeracy and literacy assessments are not affected by the rostering home and will proceed as normal. Students who are doing these assessments will only come in for the assessment then go home. On Wednesday the writing assessment will run between 11am and 1.30pm. It is suggested that students are at school at least 20 minutes before the starting time of the assessment.

Relief ban

PPTA members will not provide relief cover during their entitled non-contact periods under parts 3, 4 and 5 of the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement 2019-2022 (STCA), or under parts 2, 3 and 4 of the Area School Teachers’ Collective Agreement 2019-2022 (ASTCA).

PPTA members will only supervise, not teach, normally scheduled classes if students from other classes are included because relief teachers can not be provided.

This strike action will be continuous for the period stated above.

Work outside of school hours

PPTA members will not work outside of 8:30am to 4:30pm unless:

  • the work is during call-back time under clause 5.4 STCA or 4.7 of the ASTCA, or
  • there are immediate health and safety issues of individual students or staff that must be attended to.

Work includes responding to emails and attending meetings.

NCEA change programme ban

PPTA members that are not part of the pilots will not undertake any work related to preparation for NCEA changes. This includes professional learning and development and engagement with Ministry of Education and NZQA related to the preparation for NCEA changes.

This strike action will be continuous for the period stated above.

He Kākano

He Kākano students are welcome to attend school during these times. They will be supervised by non-PPTA staff (where possible) and teacher aides if there is rostering home associated with their year level. Taxi services will run as normal. Please let Liz McKay know if your student will be attending at those times.

Thank you for your understanding. Please contact Dominic Killalea (admin@whs.school.nz) if you have any queries relating to this decision.

Yours sincerely

David Cooling
