Achievements

NZ Food Communicators Scholarship

We are delighted to congratulate one of our own, alumna Zoe Lloyd, for being one of only two recipients of the NZ Food Communicators scholarship programme.

National Vert Skating champs success

Shout out and congratulations to Malachi Matheson (Year 11) who won the Open Blade at the recent National Vert Champs held in Mt Maunganui.

Malachi also won the ‘Biggest Air’ title again beating not online the open inline competitors, but several high-level quad skaters, who had come over from Australia to compete.

WHS on the water

In this Wrap Up, two of our Year 10 students share their experience of recent events. Luke Clarke represented Worser Bay Sailing Club in the Interislander Sailing regatta and Valor Firestone participated in the Rowing Nationals in Twizel as part of Petone Rowing Club. Congratulations to both Valor and Luke for reaching this level in their respective sports and for sharing their experiences.

Luke writes: The first race day was incredibly fun! The atmosphere was electric, and the conditions were just perfect.

Everything seemed to align—the weather was clear, the track was in great shape, and everyone was buzzing with excitement. I really enjoyed the experience, from the camaraderie in the paddock to the thrill of zooming around the track.

On the second day, things took a turn. I faced quite a few challenges that made it a bit of a struggle. Despite my efforts, the racing conditions became tricky, and I ran into some unexpected issues. It ultimately led to me having to retire from the race, which was frustrating. But even with that setback, I learned a lot and still had a great time overall. Each race teaches you something new, and I’m already looking forward to the next event!

Meanwhile, further down the South Island, Valor Firestone participated in the Rowing Nationals. You can read Valor’s account here.
