What’s Happening?
Youth Eco Narratives
Students involved in Year 10 Science enrichment have done a series of workshops with Dr. Carme Ferré-Pavia from Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, in the Faculty of Communication Sciences. Her work is around the narratives about climate change and the importance of engaging young people to share positive and close narratives, searching for a convergence between scientists, political managers and citizenship. Two group of students in Catalonia have already made personal “video minutes” that examine an aspect of climate change that is personal to them and their whanau. In the coming months, students from SouthAmerica and Africa will also contribute.
The example below was made by Caitlin Garratt from 10 RKB.
World Scholar’s Cup
Seventeen Wellington High scholars participated in the World Scholar’s cup which was hosted by us this year. They were at school till late on Friday night debating, writing and competing in a challenging general knowledge quiz! Only to return for more on Saturday where there was a student showcase talent show and lots of excitement thanks to the Alpacas (who are all named Jerry!). Well done to all our participants.
Deep and Meaningful Conversations Event
Please see this invitation for neurodiverse young people to join an upcoming initiative – the Deep, Meaningful Conversations (DMC) events, with one in-person in Auckland and another online.
DMC offers a platform for young voices to be heard, allowing them to share insights and perspectives on health and wellbeing in Aotearoa. These events also foster connections among like-minded youth, and the discussions held contribute significantly to systemic advocacy within the mental health and addiction landscape of Aotearoa. Ensuring a safe and supportive environment, these conversations are facilitated by leaders with lived youth experiences.
